Oban Baptist Church

HOW DOES OBC OPERATE?

A Gathered People
At OBC, we believe in the significance of the gathered people - Sunday mornings are an opportunity for the whole fellowship to be united together in prayer, in worship, and under God's Word, that we might fulfil the Biblical call to be in unity under God's truth.  This is also an excellent opportunity for God's good Spiritual and practical gifts to be exercised, so that the Body of Christ may be strengthened through the sacrificial service of believers towards fellow believers.

An Active Community of Faith
We also believe that Sunday isn't the only essential dynamic of church life.  We run house groups through the month, where smaller numbers can gather together to grow and develop faith in Christ.  We also seek to create opportunities throughout the week to connect people and build community so that OBC becomes a close-knit family of faith and so that the area of Oban and Argyll might come to know the gospel of Jesus Christ.

A Servant Leadership
Alongside the Pastor, we have a team of Deacons, who oversee a range of ministries within the church family.  Want to know more about the role of a Deacon and how they are identified and appointed at OBC?  Click HERE.

Communal Discernment
As a Baptist Church, we value the role of communal discernment in our decision making.  This is best seen in a Church Meeting, where we gather together to prayerfully discuss issues raised, and then seek to come to consensus.  Whilst we value contributions offered by all individuals who consider themselves part of the OBC family, some decisions may be reserved for Members only, and there are times when meetings will be only be accessible by those who have committed themselves to the membership of OBC.

Membership
We invite and encourage our congregants to consider membership at OBC, where we unite around core orthodox principles and commit to self-sacrificial living, one member to another.  If you have questions on membership, such as What is membership?  Why is it Important?  How do I become a Member?  you can read our supporting document by clicking HERE.
